Urban Innovation Community Overview(城市创新委员会英文简介)

I. What is Urban Innovation Community?
Urban Innovation Community is a working group established within the UCLG framework. It is designed to connect UCLG members and international partners through peer-learning and capacity-building facilitation. It focuses on urban innovation, a rapidly-emerging subject that deals with applying innovative methods in meeting the social, economic, environmental and governance challenges that face cities today. The ultimate goal is to help local governments to make cities better places for their citizens. The current sponsoring city of Urban Innovation Community is Guangzhou, China.
 
II. When did Urban Innovation Community come into being?
Urban Innovation Community came into being in June 2014 at the UCLG Executive Bureau held in Liverpool, the United Kingdom. During that meeting, UCLG decided on the establishment of Urban Innovation Community. It is hoped that this working group can tap into the knowledge and expertise generated from over 500 initiatives that entered the competition of Guangzhou International Award for Urban Innovation (GZ Award), pushing through the UCLG innovation and learning agenda.
 
III. What does Urban Innovation Community do?
Urban Innovation Community conducts a series of activities annually. These include:
     Connecting UCLG members and partners under the theme of urban innovation;
     Conducting field study visits to cities that are on the GZ Award best-practices list;
     Compiling academic reports to help city managers in decision making.
 
IV. Who can join?
Any organization, such as cities, local government associations and research institutions can request to join Urban innovation Community. Applicants can write to community@guangzhouaward.org for more information. Registration request will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
